The Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award recognizes outstanding reporting and writing in any field of science by science writers age 30 or younger. Winner will receive $1,000 and expenses to attend the annual ScienceWriters meeting. Deadline: June 30 annually.

SWCC honors outstanding contributions to Canadian science writing with cash prizes of $1,000 in two categories (children and general public), as well as the $500 Paradigm Prize for Underrepresented Perspectives in Science Writing, selected from the shortlist of finalists. Deadline: Nov 1, 2024.

The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) annually recognizes excellence in covering Indian Country by Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists across the U.S. and Canada, including students. Deadline: Mar 22, 2024.

NABJ recognizes journalism that best covers the Black experience or addresses issues affecting the worldwide Black community. Many categories include a specialty for environment/health/medical issues. Deadline: Feb 15, 2025.

The Livingston Awards, for excellence by professionals under the age of 35, judge print, online, video, audio and data visualization entries. Three $10,000 prizes for local, national and international reporting. Deadline is Feb 1, 2025.

Awards are given for outstanding coverage that positively impacts the critical issues of hunger, poverty and self-reliance. Enter by February 24, 2011 deadline.

CAJ recognizes outstanding Canadian reporting — with a particular focus on investigative work. Cash prizes are offered in several categories, including Photojournalism, Environmental and Climate Change, Emerging Indigenous Journalist, FOI Journalism, Data Journalism, Student and more. Deadline: Jan 14, 2025.

These annual awards honor several classes of foreign affairs reporting with certificates and $1,000 awards. $200 entry fee. Cornelius Ryan Book Award Deadline: Jan 8, 2025. General Deadline: Jan 31, 2025.

Sponsored by the American Geophysical Union, the Perlman and Sullivan awards annually recognize excellence in Earth and space science news and features reporting, respectively, each with a $5,000 prize.
