The duPont-Columbia Awards have recognized excellence in broadcast journalism since 1942. Enter daily news stories, breaking news coverage, feature stories, documentaries, interactive multimedia reporting on critical subjects, beat reporting and/or investigative stories. Deadline is July 1, 2024.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Journalism Ethics seeks applications for the first national Anthony Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics. Prize of $1,000 will go to the journalist (or team) for a story or series best exemplifying accountability, independence, reporting in search of truth, and minimization of harm to subjects, sources and the public at large.

Long Island University annually seeks nominations for the George Polk Awards for exceptional long-form investigative or enterprise journalism. Categories vary from year to year, but usually include environmental reporting and photojournalism. Cash prizes. Deadline: Jan 9, 2025.

This award enables students pursuing a science or medical journalism degree to attend the SfN annual meeting. Receive complimentary meeting registration, four nights’ lodging, $750 for expenses and a mentor who is an experienced professional journalist covering the annual meeting. Deadline is Jun 1.

These awards are granted for the best political cartoons reflecting the spirit and the principles of the United Nations. Open to political cartoons printed in any publication published anywhere, in any language. First Prize: $10,000.00; Second Prize: 5,000.00; Third Prize: 3,000.00. Enter by Nov 15, 2017.

The South Asian Journalists Association annually recognize excellence in coverage of South Asia and the diaspora, as well as outstanding reporting by South Asian journalists and students in the U.S. and Canada. Enter by Sep 4, 2024.

The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund and Reuters annually award three $5,000 prizes to a local reporter in a developing nation or country in transition, a freelancer covering international news and a news fixer, to recognize courageous reporting of conflict, corruption, human rights transgressions and injustice. Deadline: May 31, 2024.

The Bodie McDowell Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate-level college students pursuing a degree in an outdoor communications field. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. Apply by Mar 30, 2024.

The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute of New York University offers annually The Reporting Award, a grant to support a significant work of journalism in any medium on an under-reported topic in the public interest. Deadline: Mar 18, 2024.
