Meet SEJ member Bilal Motley! Bilal, an award-winning filmmaker from Chester, Pa., has been featured in CNN, Variety and The Philadelphia Inquirer. His work focuses on environmental justice and class dynamics. His 2020 debut, "Midnight Oil," a BlackStar Film Festival Official Selection and Doc Society NYC grantee, was acquired by Black Public Media. His short, "Quarantine Kids," won the 2022 Philadelphia Filmmaker Award at BlackStar Film Festival and Best Short Documentary at the March on Washington Film Festival. Bilal’s latest project, "Trash & Burn," documents the fight against America’s largest trash incinerator in Chester, a Black community impacted by decades of industrial pollution. The film has screened at Cal Berkeley, Villanova University, Swarthmore College, Philadelphia City Hall and the Backyard Doc Film Festival.
