Big Canadian Fish Farm Firm Seeks to Criminalize, Silence Environmental Critics

January 12, 2012

January 16, 2012, will mark the start of a David-vs.-Goliath defamation trial in Vancouver, BC. Mainstream Canada, the nation's second-largest farmed-salmon producer, will try to crush and silence environmental activist Don Staniford, who has had the temerity to criticize their operations publicly.

Mainstream, the company trying to use Canadian press law to silence Staniford, is actually a subsidiary of an even more gargantuan Danish transnational holding company, Cermaq, whose largest shareholder is the Danish government. Staniford could be docked as much as $125,000 if he loses.
