"The Land and Water Conservation Fund has provided critical dollars over the years to help mitigate the ravages of extreme weather and sea-level rise, according to a new nonprofit report.
LWCF money should continue to go toward boosting coastal resilience from Alaska to Florida, which is one reason why Congress should move to permanently fund the program, the Surfrider Foundation concluded in a study of the 55-year-old conservation program and its impact on wetlands, beaches and coastlines.
'In light of climate change, the resilience of our coastal lands is of paramount importance,' said Chad Nelsen, chief executive officer of the group, which advocates for the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans and beaches. 'This makes the LWCF more important now than ever before. It's time for our congressional leaders to act and fully fund the LWCF to better protect our oceans, our coastlines, and our communities against climate change.'"
