"Global energy-related CO2 emissions are expected to jump roughly 20% between today and 2050, according to a report yesterday from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The agency forecast that energy-related CO2 emissions will grow by 0.6% each year between 2018 and 2050 worldwide, with all future growth stemming from countries that do not belong to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, or OECD. The report, which draws from the International Energy Outlook 2019 released last month, expects no emissions growth, collectively, among the 36 developed nations that now make up the OECD.
EIA projects that energy consumption in non-OECD countries will rise 1.6% per year through midcentury. The research alarmed some environmental groups, which said the United States has a responsibility to reduce domestic emissions faster and to help developing nations by exporting renewable energy technology and helping to finance a just transition worldwide."
