SEJ Webinar: Complex Emergencies and Climate Change in the Era of COVID-19

Event Date:
May 27, 2020

Webinar files:

June is just around the corner, and with it will come the start of the Atlantic hurricane season — and Western wildfire season is not far behind. While the world continues to struggle with COVID-19, the risks from other kinds of disasters have not diminished, and threaten to overwhelm our already stretched capacity to respond.

Effectively reporting on disasters, conflict, and displacement has always been a challenge, one made all the more complicated by climate change. How should reporters cover the connections between climate change and disasters like heatwaves, hurricanes, and floods? How can journalists assess and communicate governments' ability to respond effectively, in the midst of a global pandemic? And what about the knock-on effects of failure to address complex emergencies, such as unplanned migration or civil conflict?

Join us on May 27, 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET, for the second #SEJ2020 webinar for tips on understanding and covering complex emergencies, in the United States and the rest of the world.

All journalists welcome.
