SciLine Experts on Camera: Environmental Contamination After Hurricanes With Dr. Weihsueh Chiu
Event Date:
October 31, 2024
The 2024 hurricane season has so far produced four major hurricanes at category 3 or above. Hurricanes damage not only homes but also other kinds of infrastructure, including power grid facilities, waste removal systems, and water treatment plants, releasing pollutants into the environment.
As part of Sciline's "experts on camera" series, journalists can book a free, 15-minute, 1-on-1 Zoom interview with Dr. Weihsueh Chiu of Texas A&M, between 10 a.m-noon ET. He can discuss:
- The types of pollution that can be released by hurricane damage;
- How preparations for hurricanes and damage to infrastructure lead to pollution;
- Long-term environmental remediation after hurricanes; and
- How hurricane-related pollution impacts human health.
