Media Briefing: Disaster Reporting and COVID-19
Please join Climate Central and the International Association of Emergency Managers on Wednesday, April 8, at 2pm EDT for a live Zoom briefing: Disaster Reporting and COVID-19. Registration required.
Social distancing, shelter-in-place orders, and travel restrictions will continue to complicate how we prepare for and respond to increasingly frequent disasters. This briefing will include short presentations and a moderated Q&A to help you cover updated emergency planning and response in your community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to help you to prepare for covering disasters once they occur. Guidance will be offered on safe reporting practices, sourcing, and finding meteorology and science resources.
Confirmed participants (more may be added):
- John Upton, journalism partnerships editor, Climate Central (moderator)
- Robert Dale, PEM, Emergency Management Planner/Meteorologist, Ingham County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Michigan
- Judith Matloff, Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma safety advisor, Columbia Journalism School faculty (crisis reporting), author of How to Drag a Body and other Safety Tips You Hope to Never Need
- Dr. Samantha Montano, assistant professor of Emergency Management & Disaster Science at University of Nebraska Omaha
* Registered attendees will receive a recording of this webinar plus a summary of points covered, sourcing suggestions, and links to reporting resources.
