Environmental History conference to be held in Toronto, April 3-6, 2013
“Confluences, Crossings & Power”
The American Society for Environmental History’s annual conference will take place at the historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. This event, which will bring together more than 700 delegates from all over the world, will feature a plenary talk on "The Fossil Fuel Dilemma: Vision, Values, and Technoscience in the Alberta Oil Sands,” including Warren Cariou, University of Manitoba; Sara Dorow, University of Alberta; Imre Szeman, University of Alberta; and Graeme Wynn, University of British Columbia. The conference will also include more than 100 sessions, a workshop on “Connecting Canadian Environmental History to the World” and a lunch seminar on careers in environmental history. A large book exhibit and environmental history poster display is available to all attendees, along with nine field trips exploring local landscapes, including a tour of Niagara Falls and a walking tour of downtown Toronto. It is open to the public.
