"The U.S. Navy confirmed Tuesday that ship shock trials with 10,000 pounds of explosives were conducted on Saturday and earlier in June, on the same dates as earthquake reports in the Atlantic Ocean off the Florida coast.
And, it’s possible additional reports could be generated later this summer as the Navy tests a second new ship.
The Navy was conducting the tests on the USS Jackson, one of its new littoral combat ships, according to a statement provided by Dale Eng, a public information officer for the Navy’s Sea Systems Command in Washington. The Jackson, an Independence-class ship commissioned in December, was subjected to its third and most forceful underwater explosion on Saturday, Eng stated. Each test was conducted with a 10,000-pound explosive charge."
